How to Copy Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Makeup

How to Copy Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Makeup

On an everyday basis, Meghan Markle's general look hews to the very casual (guys, she is the woman who wore ripped jeans during her first public appearance with Prince Harry, at the Invictus Games last year). Her on-the-regs makeup style also tends to be exceedingly unfussy: A born-and-bred California girl, her face has an adorable smattering of freckles, which she prefers to show off. (In an interview with Vanity Fair, she said wanted her freckles to be visible in the photos.)

Why should her Royal Wedding look be any different? She fully embraced the natural look with a low-key makeup look. “Nothing about her is overdone, that's what I love about her,” says Tim Quinn, Giorgio Armani Celebrity Makeup Artist. And Tiffany Patton, a makeup artist with White Rose Collective in New York City, adds, "I love seeing the freckles and her real skin. As a couple, they are going natural-Harry didn't shave for this! Their look was relaxed and true to the two of them."

To copy his look, just don't shave your ginger whiskers for a few weeks. To copy hers, try this:

Prep Your Skin

Start with primer-and you can go with a light touch. "People tend to overdo it when it's not necessary!" says Grace Lee, Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist. "Pick one depending on your needs, like redness control or smoothing, and then apply it only in the areas you need it."

For a very light coverage, Quinn recommends a foundation like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, "and applying with your fingers for a flawless finish."

The focus of this look is a smudged-out smoky eye and a well-defined brow. To replicate Meghan's style, Patton says to use a gel pencil (like the ones from Urban Decay) along the upper lash line, and then super subtly along the lower lashes-then swipe along the liner with your pinky. "This diffused definition will make your eyes look bigger," Patton says. Be warned, though, that "you have to work quickly with gel pencil because it dries fast, but once it does, it won't move all day. You won't turn into a raccoon later."

For the shadow, Quinn recommends a bronze/plum shadow, softly blurred at the edges of your eye and into the crease. Then load up lashes with mascara (Patton recommends the waterproof formula of LancГґme DГ©finicils).

And to go full-on brow-forward like Meghan, Patton suggests really grooming your brows with a pomade and filling them in with pencil (following your natural arch).

She married Harry-of course she's flushed with happiness. But she may have gotten a tiny bit of help with a little liquid blush, Quinn says, such as Fluid Sheer in a rose-gold tint. To copy what Patton calls "Meghan's champagne-y glow and dewy texture," try a highlighter such as Benefit's Watt's Up on your nose, cheeks, and around your eyes.

Her lips take the natural look to the nth degree. "It just looks like lip balm with maybe a tiny bit of tint," Quinn says. "I wouldn't be surprised if it were that simple, affordable rosebud lip balm."
